Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy helps people improve their mental, emotional, and physical health while encouraging positive relationships with self, others, and the larger community. The building of a trusting and comfortable relationship between client and therapist is important as psychotherapy may cover topics of distress. Questions or comments on the counselling process are invited at any time.

Supervision

You are welcome here.

As a neurodivergent, queer, and disabled therapist and supervisor, I work with clients and therapists to create a space for healing that meets your own unique needs and desires. You, in all your glorious complexity, are welcome here.

I work with individuals and groups providing support through a trauma-informed, neurodivergent affirming, and social justice aware lens that supports you to process, find resolution, and create more freedom to be your favourite self.

I work with clients to process childhood trauma, manage and navigate stress, and deal with a variety of different experiences and issues. The work we do takes time, goes deep, and is transformational.

I also provide supervision that meets the CRPO’s criteria. Expect to be both supported and challenged, to see things from a new perspective, and build a greater amount of understanding and empathy for clients and for yourself.

Combining a warm and fuzzy personality with evidence-based methods, I hold space for your whole, complex being. I would be honoured to help you uncover your authentic self and develop a life more aligned with your values and vision. If you’re wanting to move past surface-level work, and are hoping for deeper transformation, I might be a great fit for you.

Hello I am Vanessa (she/her), and I am finishing my Masters of Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. At the core of my practice is the belief in each person’s inherent wisdom and strength. Our human experience can be scary, confusing, and overwhelming at times. Life transitions, traumatic events, escalating work stress, family tensions, grief and loss can seem insurmountable. However, these experiences can provide profound growth, self-awareness and transformation with the right tools. As an empath, I connect to your words and attune to your expressions and body language. I will collaborate with you to uncover the root causes of your presenting concerns. When we understand how our past affects our current behaviour, we can work towards more beneficial ways of being. Old behavioural patterns that once ensured our survival may no longer serve us. Uncovering those unmet needs can reveal the beginning of a return to wholeness. With insight and clarity, we will make sense of them and integrate them into a new cohesive narrative. I aim to maintain a culturally aware, client-centred, safe space of compassion and non-judgment for you to share and be authentic and vulnerable. I advocate for normalizing therapy and de-stigmatizing mental health care. Having begun my own journey in therapy many years ago, I also became a certified yoga instructor. I appreciate what it feels like to be understood and to be heard. You are no longer alone. It will be my privilege to meet your where you are on your journey and walk with you towards wholeness. There is no one-size-fits-all in therapy. I believe in a holistic approach that considers the whole person, body, mind, and spirit. Using evidence-based interventions like Solution-focused therapy (SFT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), including meditation, and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), among others, we will co-create a treatment plan as unique as you are. I offer daytime, evening, and weekend sessions to accommodate your diverse needs.
